WELCOME TO THIS WEEK'S FLOCKNOTE
Epiphany Sunday is the celebration of the revelation of Christ to the Gentiles, symbolized by the visit of the Magi. The word Epiphany is derived from the Greek word "epiphaneia," meaning "manifestation" or "appearance,". This signifies the moment when Jesus is revealed as the Savior not just for the Jews but for all humanity. In the first reading, Isaiah gives the beautiful imagery of light breaking forth which signifies the arrival of the Divine, illuminating the darkness of the world. The call to "Arise, shine, for your light has come" is an invitation to recognize and embrace this light.
The Gift of Gold by the Magi symbolizes royalty and divinity. It shows Jesus' kingship and acknowledges Jesus as the King of Kings. The Magi's offering of gold recognizes Jesus not just as a child but as the sovereign of the universe.
The gift of Frankincense: This aromatic resin is traditionally associated with worship and divinity. It signifies the reverence to Jesus as Divine, affirming His nature as both fully human and fully Divine.
The gift of Myrrh (a perfume used in burial practices) foreshadows Jesus’ suffering and death. This gift reminds us that Christ's kingship would be marked by sacrifice, as it reflects the reality of Christ's mission culminating in crucifixion and death that brought us salvation.
These gifts of Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh show the multifaceted identity of Jesus: He is King, God, and Suffering Servant. They give a holistic understanding of His purpose and mission.
Friends, we are called to recognize the light of Christ in our own lives and to acknowledge His Kingship, Divinity, and Willingness to embrace suffering for our sake. The gifts of the Magi remind us of who Jesus is and what He came to accomplish. We are also challenged to examine our own responses to His presence — will we follow the light of truth, like the Magi, or will we succumb to the fear and manipulation exemplified by Herod? Epiphany calls us to deep contemplation, action, and a commitment to sharing the light of Christ with the world.

Rescheduled Feast of the Holy Innocents Candlelight Procession: At 4:00pm on Sunday, January 5th the Life Matters Group will hold a candlelight procession.

Leave the stipend in the offertory plate, in an envelope clearly marked “Mass Intentions” with who the mass is for and who it is from (inside with your money), or you can mail/drop off directly at the Parish Office. Thinking of Becoming Catholic?
The Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) will be offered for persons wishing to explore the Catholic Faith, its beliefs and practices. Both Catholics and non-Catholics are welcome to attend a series of video presentations with discussions/sharing afterwards.
Our Life Matters Core Group will offer the 9am Mass on third Wednesday of the month for the Protection of All Human Life. Mass to be followed by a Rosary in Reverence for Life. Everyone is welcome!
St. John's Holy Face Group:
St. John's Holy Face Group (meets on the last Thursday of the month)(next meeting in January), following the noon Mass. Our monthly gatherings will last no longer than one hour and will provide an opportunity to pray, share and learn about this powerful, Church-approved Holy Face devotion of reparation. All are welcome to join us whenever you are able. Bring a friend and help rekindle this centuries-old devotion meant for these times! For more information, please call Elaine, 613-267-1023.

Our procession starts at 15 Church Street and proceeds to our Knights of Columbus Nativity scene in the Crystal palace. Bring your children or grandchildren to enjoy this family-friendly event and join us praying the rosary and singing beloved Christmas Carols enroute.
