WELCOME TO THIS WEEK'S FLOCKNOTE
Jeremiah 17:5-8; Psalm 1; 1 Corinthians 15:12, 16-20; Luke 6:17, 20-26
Today’s readings challenge us to reflect on where we place our trust, whether in God or in the fleeting securities of the world. Jeremiah warns that trusting solely in human strength leads to barrenness, like a desert shrub fighting to survive. In contrast, those who trust in the Lord are like trees planted by water, continually nourished and flourishing.
The Psalm affirms this truth by blessing those who delight in God’s law, promising that they will never wither. These vivid images remind us that genuine stability comes not from wealth or power, but from a deep-rooted relationship with our Creator.
Paul, in 1Corinthians, reminds us that our faith hinges on the resurrection. Without Christ rising, our hope would be in vain. But because He lives, we share in the promise of eternal life. This truth invites us to place our confidence not in ephemeral things, but in the victorious Christ.
In Luke’s Gospel, Jesus Beatitudes invert worldly values. The poor, hungry, and sorrowful are blessed, while the rich and satisfied are warned, for worldly comfort can lead us to believe we do not need God. Instead, true blessedness is found in leaning on Him even amidst suffering.
May these readings call us to examine our hearts. Let us root ourselves in God, drawing strength and life from His everlasting grace, and confidently trust in His promise.
May our lives be a living testimony to the power of trusting in God, flourishing even in the midst of life’s storms indeed. Amen.

Valley Youth Singers
In September of 2024, with the support of St. James and other fabulous supporters, a new children's choir was launched in our community. After an awesome first term, the Valley Youth Singers is now inviting children, ages 7 to 12, to join them as they learn while having fun singing together!
There are rehearsal locations in both Perth and Lanark. The theme for the Spring Concert will be a "Transcontinental Adventure!"

St. John's Holy Face Group (meets on the last Thursday of the month), following the noon Mass. Our monthly gatherings will last no longer than one hour and will provide an opportunity to pray, share and learn about this powerful, Church-approved Holy Face devotion of reparation. World Day of Prayer 2025

Our siblings in The Cook Islands welcome us and lead us for the Day of Prayer 2025. This group of 15 islands in the South Pacific Ocean has a rich and colourful Māori heritage and a deep connection to nature. Join with us as we pray together and reflect on the theme ‘I made you wonderful’ (Psalm 139:1-18).
World Day of Prayer is an international, ecumenical movement which enables us to hear the thoughts of women from all parts of the world: their hopes, concerns and prayers. Locally, the World Day of Prayer Committee of Perth and area with representation from the Anglican, Baptist, Free Methodist, Pentecostal, Roman Catholic, United and Perth Community Churches, invites you, your friends and family to join in this year’s service which will be held on FRIDAY, MARCH 7 at 2 pm at BETHEL UNITED CHURCH, 1500 Rideau Ferry Road, Perth.
If you are interested in joining this ecumenical WDP working group as a representative from St John's parish, you will be most welcome! Spiritual Reflections with Archbishop Mulhall
Wednesdays; 7:00 pm
St. Mary’s Cathedral (279 Johnson Street, Kingston)
I look forward to our time together of spiritual reflection in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament. Throughout my priesthood and especially in the past several years, these moments of prayer and reflection together have been deeply rewarding for me.
I propose to reflect with you on the Beatitudes of St. Matthew’s Gospel Chapter 5 as well as a series of Psalms of the Old Testament which we pray each day at Mass. As usual, we will also give time to the liturgical celebrations of Lent/Easter as we pass through the year.
It is good to remember that there is no starting point or end point as in a series of lectures or an academic course. Though we refer to previous reflections, we repeat our thoughts frequently so that anyone can join at any stage or miss weeks without losing any necessary points or developments. I like to think of our reflections as one long continuous series of reflections on a mystery from countless starting points. All these reflections I pray will be beneficial for us at whatever time of life or stage of our spiritual pilgrimage. The Lord, in whose presence we will pray together will always provide the grace, consolation, and strength that we need to make steady progress in our life of faith.
