WELCOME TO THIS WEEK'S FLOCKNOTE
Acts 1:1–11, Luke 24:46–53
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
Today, we rejoice in the glorious feast of the Ascension, when Jesus, having completed His earthly mission, was taken up into heaven in the sight of His disciples. It is a moment of triumph, not farewell. Though Jesus ascends, He does not abandon us for he has promised, “I am with you always,” and He remains with us through the Holy Spirit and His Body, the Church.
As Jesus rose, the disciples stood there gazing into the sky. Two angels appeared and asked, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking up?” In other words, Jesus has given us a mission! Don’t just look up, go out! We are not called to stand around waiting. We are called to move, to love, and to witness to love and righteousness.
The Ascension tells us three things: Christ is exalted as Lord of heaven and earth; He intercedes for us before the Father; and He sends us out as His witnesses. This is not just the end of Jesus’ time on earth, it’s the beginning of our mission to bear witness to the Good News.
Jesus entrusts His Gospel to us, not to angels, not to the sky, but to regular people like you and me. And yes, He knew our flaws. Jesus didn't ascend thinking, “I left the Church in perfect hands.” No, He left it in loving hands, empowered by the Spirit!
Friends, the Ascension reminds us that Christ reigns in glory but also reigns in us. His Spirit empowers us to bring hope where there is despair, love where there is hatred, and faith where there is fear.
So today, let us not be caught staring into the clouds. Let us go forth with joy, filled with the Holy Spirit, proclaiming that Christ is risen, ascended, and reigning forever!

St. John's lifeMATTERS Group will be hosting PART II of our small group forum based on the 'Dying to Meet You' Project, an engaging initiative developed by well-known Canadian life advocate, Amanda Achtman. Through short video stories and testimonies, along with personal sharing, we will journey together to a place where suffering and death can be transformed into tangible hope and genuine love ... without euthanasia.

BIRTHRIGHT: is celebrating Mother’s and Father’s Day again this year by distributing baby bottles on Mother’s Day weekend. If you want to make a difference in this CHANGE FOR LIFE campaign, please take a bottle, fill it with coins, paper money or cheques and return it on Father’s Day weekend. 7th Annual Rideau Canal Men’s Retreat by canoe and kayak

Theme: Jubilee 2025 - Pilgrims of Hope
Planning is underway for the 7th Annual Rideau Canal Men's Retreat 2025 for Catholic men (18 years and older, and fathers with teenage sons) will be from August 5-7, 2025.
As in previous years, the goal is to gather Catholic men in an outdoor adventure/retreat where we can share our faith and enjoy a little male camaraderie. We hope that all who are interested in participating in this enjoyable event can work their schedules and join us for this time of prayer, daily Mass, opportunities for Confession, and lots of fun, fraternity, exercise, and adventure. If you know other men who may be interested and are not on our distribution list, please feel free to forward an invitation to them. We anticipate being fully registered, so this is your chance to let us know if you are interested. Thank you for your consideration.

St. John's Holy Face Group:
St. John's Holy Face Group (meets on the last Thursday of the month) following the noon Mass. Our monthly gatherings will last no longer than one hour and will provide an opportunity to pray, share and learn about this powerful, Church-approved Holy Face devotion of reparation. Spiritual Reflections with Archbishop Mulhall
Wednesdays; 7:00 pm
We will be reflecting on the Beatitudes of St. Matthew’s Gospel Chapter 5 as well as a series of Psalms of the Old Testament which we pray each day at Mass. As usual, we will also give time to the liturgical celebrations of Lent/Easter as we pass through the year.
It is good to remember that there is no starting point or end point as in a series of lectures or an academic course. Though we refer to previous reflections, we repeat our thoughts frequently so that anyone can join at any stage or miss weeks without losing any necessary points or developments. I like to think of our reflections as one long continuous series of reflections on a mystery from countless starting points. All these reflections I pray will be beneficial for us at whatever time of life or stage of our spiritual pilgrimage. The Lord, in whose presence we will pray together will always provide the grace, consolation, and strength that we need to make steady progress in our life of faith.
