WELCOME TO THIS WEEK'S FLOCKNOTE
17th Sunday in Ordinary Time
A child once asked his grandfather, “Why do you smile so much when you pray?” The old man replied, “Because I have already found my treasure.” That simple answer captures today’s Gospel. Jesus says, “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field… and like a merchant in search of fine pearls” (Matthew 13:44-46). Those who discover Christ gladly let go of everything else because nothing compares with Him.
Solomon understood this truth. Instead of asking for riches or power, he prayed, “Give your servant an understanding heart” (1 Kings 3:9). God delighted in that request because wisdom teaches us to recognize what is truly valuable.
In our busy families, careers, and ambitions, we can spend enormous energy chasing things that cannot satisfy. Yet St. Paul reassures us, “All things work together for good for those who love God” (Romans 8:28). When Christ is our greatest treasure, even life's struggles become opportunities for grace.
At this Eucharist, we meet the priceless Pearl once again. Let us leave this altar with joyful hearts, willing to exchange everything that fades for the One who never does. For whoever finds Christ has already found life's greatest treasure.
May we also leave this altar with Solomon's wise heart, the merchant's joyful courage, and the saint's unwavering conviction: to know Jesus is the greatest wealth, to love Him is the deepest joy, and to belong to Him is the only treasure that nothing can ever take away, Amen.

The Triduum of preparation will be led by Bishop Michael Brehl, Bishop of the Diocese of Pembroke. The principal Pilgrimage Mass will be at 11:00am at the Shrine. Healing Service: “I am the Lord, your Healer” (Exodus 15:26). Jesus is alive! We have seen Him heal illness and injuries in our day. Join us to encounter the healing love of our Risen Lord on Thursday, Aug. 20th, 6:45pm – 9:00pm at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 1111 Taylor-Kidd Blvd, Kingston. The evening will open giving praise to God and proclaiming His Word, followed by corporate prayers for physical healing, and an opportunity for individual healing prayer. Free and open to the public. Our monthly gatherings will last no longer than one hour and will provide an opportunity to pray, share and learn about this powerful, Church-approved Holy Face devotion of reparation. Update: I know that there are many who have expressed interest in joining us but are (understandably) taking a wait-and-see approach to register. But if you're seriously interested in this pilgrimage, please secure your spot by completing the registration forms and returning them with a copy of your passport. Note that we will not charge any payments until we know for sure we are going (however, anyone intending to pay by credit card must complete the credit card section). But it's important to secure your spot because there's very high demand and you don't want to miss this opportunity. We're already over 50% booked, and should a stable ceasefire be negotiated and held in the next few weeks, there will be an explosion of demand.
