WELCOME TO THIS WEEK'S FLOCKNOTE
18th Sunday in Ordinary Time
"Buy more and you will be satisfied" is a slogan that is so popular these days. Yet our hearts quietly whisper, "There must be more desired needs."
Today's readings answer that longing. Through Isaiah, God invites us: "Come to the water... come, without paying and without cost"(Isaiah 55:1). God's greatest gifts, love, mercy, forgiveness, and eternal life, cannot be bought. They are freely given.
In the Gospel, Jesus feeds over five thousand with five loaves and two fish. The miracle begins not with abundance but with a child's simple offering. God often starts with what seems small. A family that prays together for five minutes each evening, a forgiving word after an argument, or a meal shared with a lonely neighbour may seem insignificant, yet in Christ these become miracles of grace.
St. Paul then assures us that "nothing... will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 8:39). Even when our baskets seem empty, God's love is never exhausted.
The Eucharist is the continuation of that miracle. Jesus still takes what we offer, blesses it, breaks it, and gives Himself as the Bread of Life. Leave today trusting not in what you possess but in the One who possesses your heart. Those who come to Christ hungry never leave empty; they leave nourished, sent, and ready to feed a hungry world with His love.

This week, Archbishop Mulhall announced the latest clergy appointments for our Archdiocese, to take effect on September 1, 2026.
We begin by congratulating the priests of our Archdiocese who are retiring and thank them for their many years of faithful and dedicated service to God's people. May God richly bless them in this new chapter of life.
We also offer our heartfelt congratulations to Father Anthony Dim, Associate Pastor of our family of parishes. Father Anthony has been a wonderful blessing to our communities, and while we will miss himdearly, we wish him every blessing and success in his new ministry.
With both gratitude and sadness, we congratulate Father Charles Enyinnia on his appointment as Pastor of St. Paul the Apostle Parish in Kingston. Since arriving in 2020, Father Charles has faithfully shepherded our parishes with kindness, wisdom, and joyful dedication. As he returns to Kingston, the city where his Canadian ministry first began, his appointment is truly a full-circle moment. While many in Kingston will rejoice at his return, we will deeply miss our beloved pastor. We assure him of our prayers and wish him every blessing in this new chapter of priestly ministry.
We warmly welcome Father Cyprian Ihedoro to our family of parishes. Father Cyprian comes to us from St. Edward the Confessor Parish in Westport, where Father Anthony has now been appointed. We look forward to welcoming him and pray that he will quickly feel at home among us.
Our priests faithfully promise obedience to the bishop at their ordination, accepting wherever they are called to serve. While these appointments are made in service to the needs of the Church, they are not without sacrifice. Such transitions are significant for our priests and for the parish communities they leave behind and those they join.
Please keep Father Anthony, Father Charles, Father Cyprian, and all our priests in your prayers as they prepare for the next stage of their ministry. May God bless them abundantly.

Healing Service: “I am the Lord, your Healer” (Exodus 15:26). Jesus is alive! We have seen Him heal illness and injuries in our day. Join us to encounter the healing love of our Risen Lord on Thursday, Aug. 20th, 6:45pm – 9:00pm at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 1111 Taylor-Kidd Blvd, Kingston. The evening will open giving praise to God and proclaiming His Word, followed by corporate prayers for physical healing, and an opportunity for individual healing prayer. Free and open to the public. St. John's Holy Face Group:
St. John's Holy Face Group (meets on the last Thursday of the month) following the noon Mass. Our monthly gatherings will last no longer than one hour and will provide an opportunity to pray, share and learn about this powerful, Church-approved Holy Face devotion of reparation. Update: I know that there are many who have expressed interest in joining us but are (understandably) taking a wait-and-see approach to register. But if you're seriously interested in this pilgrimage, please secure your spot by completing the registration forms and returning them with a copy of your passport. Note that we will not charge any payments until we know for sure we are going (however, anyone intending to pay by credit card must complete the credit card section). But it's important to secure your spot because there's very high demand and you don't want to miss this opportunity. We're already over 50% booked, and should a stable ceasefire be negotiated and held in the next few weeks, there will be an explosion of demand.
